Rockin' Rodney: "Coming to the front!" |
Brook’s back-of-the-pack
starting spot came as a result of a blown head gasket prior to qualifying two
weeks earlier. But when the main event fell victim to rain, it gave the
Godfather Motorsports team ample time to make repairs and return for the
rescheduled main event.
“We knew we had a fast race
car, right off the trailer,” said Brooks. “We were the fourth or fifth-fastest
car in practice, and I told crew chief Jim Gallison that when they threw the
green flag for the feature, we were coming to the front.”
Once the green flag waved,
Brooks wasted little time keeping his word, passing 10 cars in the first 30 laps
despite running a conservative pace to save his tires for the stretch run. The
Trinity Oaks Ford was 10th by Lap 50, running nose-to-tail with Pro
All Stars Series point leader Kyle Grissom, and spent the remainder of the
100-lap race racing in the Top-10. A late restart following a multi-car frontstretch
crash trapped Brooks in the slower outside lane for the final restart, but he
persevered for a gratifying, eighth-place finish.
“I can’t say enough about
this Trinity Oaks team,” said Brooks afterward. “Jim and the crew --Andy O’Connor,
Trevor Lucias, Randy Bowers, Mike Jones and Tyler Monn -- gave me a terrific race
car. Coming from the back of the pack is tough to do in this series, and that’s
the most fun I’ve had in a long, long time.”
