Kansas Speedway officials announced today that the track will once again host a pair of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekends in 2012; though on dramatically different surfaces. In addition, the track’s spring race will be moved to a different date. The date change is being made to ensure time for recently announced track improvements to be completed. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “STP 400” is set for April 21-22, with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series running the preliminary “SFP 250” on Saturday, April 21. Sunday’s Cup race will be the last run with the Kansas oval’s present surface and layout.
When NASCAR returns for the Oct. 20 Nationwide Series “Kansas Lottery 300” and the Oct. 21 Sprint Cup “Hollywood Casino 400,” race teams will throw out all their old set-up notes in preparation for a new racing surface and layout, headlined by variable-degree banking of up to 20 degrees.
Kansas Speedway still has a weekend left to run in 2011. The “Hollywood Casino 400” will take place on Oct. 9, with the Nationwide Series running a companion event on Saturday.
