Lucas Lawn & Landscaping Complains Of Unfair Treatment Following Wallace Attack

The owners of Lucas Lawn and Landscaping in Indian Trail, NC, released a written statement today, complaining of unfair treatment in the aftermath of an alleged physical confrontation involving the reported owner of the business, Paul Lucas and two of his employees and former NASCAR driver Mike Wallace and his daughter, Lindsey Wallace Van Wingerden, last Friday evening at PNC Amplitheatre in Charlotte, NC.

The attack left Mike Wallace with numerous cuts, bruises and broken teeth, after he was allegedly punched and kicked by Lucas, 29, Nathan Lucas (22) and Randolph Mangum (24). Lindsey Van Wingerden suffered bruised ribs after also allegedly being kicked while attempting to shield her unconscious father from further attack.

“On Friday, June 17th one employee of our company was accused of being involved in an assault upon one Mike Wallace and Lindsey Wallace Van Wingerden,” said the written release. “Since that time Mr. Wallace and various other individuals have chosen to post statements, comments and opinions regarding the circumstances on social media websites.  This has resulted in verbal attacks upon our business, suggestions that our clients abandon our company and innuendo regarding our business that we believe is designed to both frustrate the proper administration of justice within our court system and prevent our company from continuing to do business where we employee (sic) over 70 individuals who work hard and depend upon their jobs to support themselves and their families.

Arrested: (L-R) Nathan Lucas, Paul Lucas,
Randolph Mangum
This situation arose at an event that did not involve our business or the operation of the business in any way.  The efforts being made to disparage our business and negatively impact its hardworking employees is both disturbing and uncalled for.  This is, in our opinion, a mechanism being used to point blame at those who had no involvement in the matter and, simultaneously, deflect any inquiry into the actions and behavior that may have occurred at the time the situation arose by those making the accusations.

Our company takes the actions of its employees, both on and off the clock, seriously and we plan to diligently and appropriately evaluate all of the accurate and undisputed information.  However, we respectfully ask that those who rely on social media postings and one sided representations of fact CONSIDER the motivations behind those efforts.  No one at our business would expect those who patronize the business of another to vilify or otherwise judge that business based upon what are solely accusations and finger pointing at any one or more of their employees.  We feel certain that if a similar situation were occurring to Mr. Wallace, he would be asking for a fair and reasoned approach that included both sides of the equation, not just the one desired by the complaining party.  We ask that a rational and objective assessment of the matter be considered before taking actions, as suggested by others, that would harm our professional activities and the families who gain support from our business operations.

We are saddened that we have felt the need to engage in this release but it does, unfortunately, appear that Mr. Wallace and his supporters intend to have this matter resolved in the court of public opinion.  This is NEITHER FAIR NOR appropriate for any of the parties involved to include mr. Wallace himself.  This is especially true related to our business which had absolutely no involvement in the matter.  We hope that the public will do as we intend, by gathering facts that are properly vetted.

Our company supports our system of justice and believes that it will operate in an unbiased and objective manner in determining just which individuals may have been at fault in this situation.  As suggested above, we believe that efforts to undermine our system, including the verbal attacks on our business, should be viewed dimly and questioned wholeheartedly.”

  1. As an owner of a business, when you are involved in anything good or bad it does reflect on your business! You, are the one that let your employees down! Take responsibility and quit blaming others!

  2. 2 Lucases from Lucas Landscaping involved....no apology, no claim of it being "An unfortunate incident", no "Well wishes" to Mike and Lindsey for a quick recovery, no hint that they're "Conducting their own investigation of their employee's involvement" yet disparaging them on social media is "Uncalled for"?

good to see where their hearts are....I think people can make their own decisions about supporting their business or not

Thank you! I felt bad for the business before I read their statement. Not professional or caring in any way.

  3. Hell, the owner of said company and 2 employees attacked a man and his daughter + his son- in - law and you don't like it being in the media. Poor babies, maybe you shouldn't have attacked them in the first place, and this isn't your first time, you have done this 2 other times. You need to be put out of business, and sent to JAIL for a long time.

  4. One company employee involved. Would that be the owner Paul Lucas? Sounds like they have a good public relations company trying to put a spin on things. If it's true that this is the fourth time Paul Lucas has done this I hope the justice system is fair and locks him up for a long time.

Just because the owner of our company was involved in a brutal attack that doesn't mean we are bad people when we are sober- Lucas Lawn and Landscapping (This line got edited out of the first draft)

The thief always says he didn't steal the gold even when it was found in his pocket. These folks are trying to cover their asses because of the heinous actions of the OWNER who is responsible for his company and it's REPUTATION. You reap what you sow.

  9. Why then does it state in the news report that there seems to be a continuing pattern of assaults by nathan lucas and his cronies. mike wallace can be a jerk at times, but how does that warrant continuing to kick an unconcious man? Is the press report completely wrong or what? Kicking an unconcious person is an aggraved assault...which is NOT a little thing.

Since the OWNER of said company assaulted another human being , shows his true character as a person and,a businessman, this person deserves for his business to go down the toilet

The owners of the company did this to themselves the owners brought bad publicity to their company have nobody else to blame but themselves. To brutally attack to people one of which was a woman protecting her father while he lay unconscious. Is just despicable and wrong!!!! He is lucky to be alive. That being said He is a nascar driver and you mess with a driver you mess with a nation, Nascar Nation. Maybe these owners of this company might think twice about doing something like this again if they lost some business over it after all they are the owners and if they can't represent their company better then that they don't deserve to be in business.

  12. So, the two Lucas boys are just employees? And they take it seriously? This is what's been reported as either the 3rd for 4th incident involving these clowns at the same facility, perhaps we need to redefine taking it seriously.

  15. Why is it that so many are leaving out a portion of the local TV stations story which says that the only witness of the event says that it was the Wallace group which started the fight?

A large part of the claims made by Wallace do not hold up to scrutiny when examined closely.

Claims that the people in charge of the venue and police told him that they have had problem with this group several times in the past. Have you ever seen someone accused of starting problems in a venue which have been allowed to return? Sorry that just does not happen.

Why would police and management tell Wallace that? OK i am going to let someone know that a group of people have been trouble makers and i have allowed them to continue to come back. NO ONE is that stupid as it opens you up to legal liability for what happened.

That the people have contracts with the venue and has been able to retain that contract even though, as Wallace claims, they have been involved in several incidents at the venue. Now can you now tell me the one about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. If they had repeatedly been involved in such behavior in the past the company would have lost the contract with the venue. NO venue would allow them to keep the contract, once again due to liability laws.

Why no mention of the fact that the witness said that someone in the Wallace party attacked the mom of one of the men BEFORE the men reacted?

Maybe there should be an investigation into the claims that it was Wallace's daughter who was drunk and abusive and it was she who actually started the problems.

If the daughter did initiate the conflict by talking trash to the Lucas mother, then this changes everything. The response was uncalled for however. If eyewitness accounts backup that the Wallace clan were drunk and belligerent then the media should retract all of the stories. Let's settle this in the court of law and not through the social media.

  16. To bad you had to write a statement. Your employee and 2 of them with the same last name of the company are the reason this has been put out in social media. The point here is weither or not this was Mr. Wallace or Joe Smow these 3 idiots committed a crime, a crime so hanis that it made the news. What did you expect the public to do? Sit back and say naughty boys. No, if this company can't control their own family how does the public know they will be safe using your services. Instead of posting your statement saying it's unfair that the public is using social media to fix this situation. You should have fired all involved and put out a statement informing the public what you've done and sent out an apologie to those who were harmed and then let the public know you don't tolerate this kind of behavior and you will do your best to replace these criminals with good hearted people. All your statement said was wawawa you're picking on me you truley look like a fool now and you need a better laywer. No statement would have been better than what you put out there.

  18. Hey Dave...as a business owner myself. If one of my employees commits a crime in a vehicle branded with my business name, it represents my company...therefore, the company who allowed their employees to take the vehicle to a concert, and commit such a violent act...should feel the repercussions as well.

OK everyone is innocent until proven guilty. While I was furious when I read the eye witness accounts and saw the pictures of Mr Walkace's face, I do recognize that the justice system needs to work through this. Given the brutality of the crime, I am shocked by the low bail. Let's see how this all plays out. Speedy recovery to Mr Wallace and his daughter.

One news report said one of those charged, Paul Lucas, was the owner of Lucas Landscaping. He is a thug just like the other two. Lucas has been terminated by the owners of the amphitheater where the incident took place! Kudos to them. These thugs shouldn't be allowed to work anywhere! I wish it had been me they jumped. Jumping on a woman too! What bravery ! Thuggery at its worse. And I've read they've done this to others at that same place. If I had been the first, there wouldn't have been a second! People, don't hire them. Let them go helpful in their business. Let the illegals vacate your area. ICE, IRS..... do your job!

Mr Lucas Sr is complaining of "unfair treatment"? Did he think his own son Lucas Jr gave Mike Wallace and his daughter fair treatment? And he states that his company doesn't deserve the media and public backlash it's getting. Didn't the get away vehicle have Lucas Landscaping on the door? Karma is a Bitch....

  24. Ncrdbl1 you are entitled to your own opion. Now with that said even if what you say is right which I believe it isn't two wrongs don't make a right nobody deserves to be beat to this extent in no way shape or form should a man put his hands on a woman I don't care if she's drunk and obnoxious. It takes a bigger man to walk away than it does to stay and kick and punch any one. If Mr. Wallace did provoke this fight why did his daughter wife and son-in-law receive injuries? They were innocent bystanders, his daughter was trying to protect her father from anymore abuse. There is an old saying maybe you're too young to remember it but it goes like this " sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" So whether Mr. Wallace spouted off first or not this should have never happened if these were law abiding men they could have done one of two things 1. Walked away. 2. Called the authorities. Instead they took the law into their own hands. They are the ones who brought on the misfortune of this company not the Social Media.

If you do business with Lucas Landscaping watch out....you may be their next victim. Distance yourself from them as fast as you can.

  26. I don't understand the simple assault charges. You see this more and more today where even though someone is knocked unconscious the attacker(s) keep kicking the head. This crosses a line to where major life altering brain damage or death is possible. I consider it attempted murder at that point.

I would guess that as a contractor for PNC, that Lucas was there either with tickets provided as a gratuity for there services, or obtained at a greatly reduced price. They probably sent their truck to sit out in the parking lot as advertising, get their name out in public. It worked, so they kind of deserve all the attention.

    Correct me if I’m wrong!
It look’s like you created your own problem guy’s!
This family was unfairly treaded when you attack them in the parking lot.
You say you were unfairly treaded.
I read according to CMPD this was the third time this year this group has been involved in a altercation.
You were only being charged with simple assault?
You were out of jail before they were out of the hospital.
What Company or Home Owner would want you on their property
and end up in a law suit over your dumb actions?
Come off the “POOR ME S**T“.
You guy’s created the problem & are a problem to society.
You made your bed now sleep in it!
