Bodine: "We Have A Deal For Daytona."

"The Onion" will race at Daytona
Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Todd Bodine has a sponsor for the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway, and said he is optimistic about finding additional funding for the full, 2012 campaign.

“I’m with Red Horse Racing,” said Bodine on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Tradin’ Paint today. “We’re going to race together if we can find sponsorship. (Team owner) Tom DeLoach has made the commitment to me and I’ve made the commitment to him. That’s what we’re going to do. As we have been for the last two months, we’re seeking sponsorship. We’re making some gains, and we have a deal put together for Daytona, so we will be going there to race.”

Bodine declined to name his Daytona sponsor, but an official announcement is expected from the team later this week. He said Red Horse continues to talk to potential sponsors about the bulk of the season, as well. “We’ve got some other things happening, and a lot of interest,” said the 2006 and 2010 Truck Series champion. “The people who say sponsorships are few and far between and it’s tough to get people interested don’t know what they’re talking about. There are a lot of companies interested, but you have to be realistic about the number you shoot these people.

“I think a lot of owners have seen that over the last couple of years,” Bodine said. “They’ve really had to cut back and make their numbers work. There’s a lot of interest in the Truck Series right now, and hopefully we can get (some more) of these deals nailed down.”

Bodine finished sixth in championship points last season with Germain Racing, but was held winless for the first time since 1999.

  2. How many of these guys have raced in the last 2 years? Bodine has hung in there in the garage actively which is why he is a better choice.
