Cale Gale |
Gale,
who competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, helped a group of breast
cancer survivors paint Martinsville Speedway’s curbs pink to mark National
Breast Cancer Awareness month and help bring more attention to the cause. The
curbs will remain pink during the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 Late Model
Stock race on October 21, the Kroger 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race
on October 27, and the TUMS Fast Relief 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race on October
28.
“I
feel good about what we’re doing today, it’s obviously for a special cause,”
said Gale, whose truck will be carrying the pink and black colors of Rheem’s
Chase a Cure program in the Kroger 200. “It’s a charitable organization that
helps benefit the Young Survival Coalition and raising awareness for breast
cancer. It’s a lot of fun to be a part of and I think I look good in pink.”
The
Young Survival Coalition was the first nonprofit organization to focus
exclusively on the unique needs of young women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Yeah, it's pink alright! |
Kevin
Harvick will run a similar black and pink Rheem’s Chase A Cure program paint
scheme in the TUMS Fast Relief 500 on October 28 at Martinsville. Both drivers
will be wearing special black and pink driver’s suits.
Gale
had help in painting the curbs from four breast cancer survivors form the
Martinsville-Henry County area that are part of the Martinsville and Henry
County Coalition for Health and Wellness.
This
was the second year that Martinsville Speedway turned its iconic curbs pink as
part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“We’ve
all been touched by it (breast cancer). I don’t know of anybody who hasn’t been
affected by it in one way or another. It just affects so many people, ” said
Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “Hopefully something good will
come out of this today and somewhere down the road we can find a cure. The
breast cancer survivors that came out, I applaud them so much for their
efforts. It’s a great day to bring awareness to a serious situation.”
