Riggs returns at Martinsville |
"I'm excited about this
opportunity," said Riggs. "When I raced Late Models at South Boston,
Orange County and Myrtle Beach, I raced against Ricky's teams, so it's exciting
to be going racing with a team and a group of guys that I know."
The new driver and team got
a jump start on the Martinsville race last week with a test at Little Rock
Speedway in Rockingham, N.C.
"I was impressed with
the truck and the way it ran at Little Rock," said team manager Mike
Hester. "We didn't get as much time on track as we would have liked, but
the truck was pretty good and should be good when we unload (at Martinsville)."
Riggs is no stranger to the
half-mile paperclip in Southwest Va. In addition to his extensive NASCAR Cup
Series experience at the track, the Bahama, N.C.-native collected his first of
five truck series wins of the 2001 season at the track.
The No. 92 entry has made six
NCWTS starts in 2012 with drivers David Reutimann and Chad McCumbee. The team
will make a decision on the three remaining races this season after
Martinsville.
Veteran crew chief Dave Fuge
takes over as crew chief of the No. 92 for the event.
"This will be the first
time in a year and a half that I haven't been a start-and-park car," said
Riggs, "so we are going to go out here at Martinsville and have some
fun."
