Kenseth Summoned To Monday Meeting With NASCAR CEO

USA Today Sports is reporting that Matt Kenseth will meet with NASCAR Chairman/CEO Brian France later today, before returning from a two-race suspension imposed for wrecking leader Joey Logano at Martinsville Speedway last month.

Kenseth has been outspoken during his two-week layoff, tweeting after last week’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, Good work @JimmieJohnson! Textbook pass for the win at the end of the race when someone is trying to take your lane. #quintessential.”

Kenseth’s “quintessential” reference stems from recent comments by France on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s SiriusXM Speedway, when he called Logano’s decision to spin Kenseth in the late laps at Kansas Speedway, “quintessential NASCAR.” Kenseth said those comments led him to believe that NASCAR had condoned Logano’s tactics, and that he was free to retaliate in kind.

“I felt like I was almost encouraged,” said Kenseth to the Associate Press. “I felt like the comments almost condoned it, the way Brian France said Joey was smart in the way he strategically eliminated a threat for the title. I just never dreamed, ever, that I’d get suspended for going back and evening the score.”

France and Kenseth will reportedly discuss the sanctioning body’s stance concerning on-track contact when they meet today. Sources say France is also anxious to ensure that a recurrence of hostilities between Kenseth and Logano not impact Sunday’s championship race at Homestead Miami Speedway.

  1. Oh I think it's over Mr France. Matt pushing the issue would be kind of like a certain driver at Kansas turning another around for a win that wasn't needed. I think Matt is satisfied.

They might need to have a sit down with Joey though regarding Homestead.

after Matts interview with AP Matts need the sitdown and be told that he will be watched very carefully and any actions detrimental to NASCAR could cause further sanctions.

  3. Can't wait for my Free Matt T! Johnson showed you can pass a competitor without wrecking him. The Penske boys have been wrecking guys for years without penalty. ALL drivers are sick of it. Then Mr. France condones it. Rubbing and fender banging are one thing....but turning someone because your having a hissy fit is another.

  4. At this point, can we ban everyone in NASCAR from buying the same Word of the Day desktop calendar.

Johnson passed the other car because he wasn't blocking him. If Matt was smart, he would have let Joey by and settled for second. He might have made the chase on points if he had. Used to like Matt, but not so much now.

    1. By blocking do you mean changing lanes to keep the driver in second from passing? Keselowski most certainly was doing that. The difference is that Jimmie knows how to set up a pass, Joey just knows that Matt was "in my line"

  6. This is only so the man at Nascar who inherited his position can stay in the lime lite. What else has he to do.

This is exactly right. Even Brad and Jimmie said there was no blocking involved last week. All Brad did was tried the line that Jimmie used to close up the gap. Jimmie said once Brad did that, he just went were Brad wasn't and made the pass! That is not blocking.....don't care who you are.

Brian France shouldn't comment on operational business issues (on track) when it suits him then Steve O'Donnell out to deal with it when he has to catch a plane.(after the race) The only one I trust Helton anyway.

Who gets the biggest cheer at driver introductions, Joey, Brad or Matt? All Brian France is doing is making the man more of a hero because he's afraid of Matt ruining his parade in Homestead.

I wonder how Joey reacts when he see that 20 in his mirror from now on?

  10. Brian France's lack of credibility predates and almost surpasses Roger Goodell's, so I doubt any substantive good will come from this meeting.

Matt has handle this whole situation in nothing but a hypocritical fashion. He was racing and was raced the way he was raced. Sorry, what he did was BS. And yet he cannot and will not let it go, trying to entice one and all to his pity party. Team Penske, and Logano have been nothing but class. He can whine all he want's he was wrong and always will be wrong.

    1. Kenseth was never the bully here - the two Penske guys instigated the entire fracas between Logano at Kansas and then Keselowski taking out Kenseth at Martinsville before the follow-up wreck.
