Tragedy for Felix Sabates |
The Palm Beach (FL)
Post is reporting that a 17-year-old boy is facing a charge of
manslaughter by culpable negligence after accidentally shooting the 18-year old
grandson of NASCAR team owner Felix Sabates.
Feliciano Sabates
died after being shot in the chest with a 9 mm pistol by a 17-year old juvenile
in a suburban Palm Beach Gardens apartment Saturday. Police said Sabates was
among a group of juveniles and adults consuming drugs and alcohol, before passing
around the pistol. The gun discharged as the junvenile pointed it at Sabates,
striking him in the chest. He died at the scene.
Investigators have
ruled that the shooting was “a careless act rather than an intentional act,” leading
to the charge of manslaughter by culpable negligence.
Felix Sabates is minority owner of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, which fields Chevrolets for Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He has not commented on the shooting.
