Vickers lands in the No. 55 Toyota |
Brian Vickers will drive the
No. 55 Toyota Camry for Michael Waltrip Racing in six NASCAR Sprint Cup races this
season, beginning at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 18. Vickers will also race
the #55 at the August Bristol event, as well as each of the two races at
Martinsville Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway this season.
"I am thrilled to get
back behind the wheel of not just a race car, but a very fast race car,"
said Vickers, who was the first Toyota driver to qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR
Sprint Cup in 2009. The 28-year old driver has two career Sprint Cup victories
and 11 poles. Last season, he scored three Top-5 and seven Top-10 finishes for
Red Bull Racing.
Michael Waltrip drove the
#55 in the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona and will run in four more races in
2012. Mark Martin will drive the #55 in 24 point-counting races, plus the All
Star Race in Charlotte. MWR will name a driver for two road course events
later.
For everyone that's worried that BV's returning to the track at Bristol, and that's considered a payback track, I think its needless worry. He needs to have a good showing is a main reason.
ReplyDeleteThe way he ended last season, regardless of fault or blame, did not endear him to potential sponsors, or teams.
If there's contact at Bristol, I think calmer heads will prevail.
Also, the guys he had a problem with last year, still have more to lose than him this year points wise. That is unless you consider this could be Vickers' last chance.
For his sake, I hope he keeps his head on straight.
But as a fan, it sure would make Bristol interesting if he doesn't. Not that Bristol needs any help.
