Send A Soldier To The Rock

Race fans across the country can now support the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ return to Rockingham (NC) Speedway and our men and women in uniform through a new initiative called “Send A Soldier To The Rock.”

In advance of the Sunday, April 15 "Good Sam Roadside Assistance Carolina 200 presented by Cheerwine" at Rockingham, fans are encouraged to purchase a $20 general admission ticket for distribution to a soldier at nearby Fort Bragg, N.C., home of the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Command.

Rockingham Speedway president Andy Hillenburg announced the initiative today, saying, “This idea came directly from the fans. We’ve had a number of people call our ticket office to say that while they couldn’t be in attendance on April 15, they wanted to buy a ticket to support the event. We kicked a few ideas around, and decided to direct all that good will toward the men and women of the United States military.

“Fans have begun adding an additional ticket to their order for the soldiers,” said Hillenburg. ”Some have even purchased blocks of 3-4 seats. This program started at the grassroots level, and we couldn’t be happier to give it our seal of approval. Nothing is too good for our military men and women, and we look forward to hosting them April 13-15.”
The legendary North Carolina oval will host its first NASCAR-sanctioned event since February of 2004, when Matt Kenseth drove his Ford to Victory Lane in the “Subway 400.” It remains one of the most popular speedways in the country among both fans and competitors, and will host three days of racing beginning Friday, April 13 with practice for the NASCAR Camping World Truck and UARA-Stars Late Model Series, along with practice and qualifying for Frank Kimmel Street Stock Series.
Saturday’s schedule features additional practice and qualifying for the Camping World Truck and Late Model Series, along with Twin 75-lap main events for the UARA-Stars Late Models and Frank Kimmel Street Stocks. After the final checkered flag falls, Little Texas and the Chris Lane Band will take to the stage for a concert that is free to all race ticket holders.
Sunday’s "Good Sam Roadside Assistance Carolina 200 presented by Cheerwine” takes the green flag at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 15, preceded by pre-race ceremonies and a special driver autograph session.
Fans interested in contributing to the “Send A Solider To The Rock” program are encouraged to call the Rockingham Speedway ticket office at (910) 205-.8800, or visit online at www.rockinghamspeedway.com

    Dave
Thanks for the link I wish I could go but I cant, so I am sending a couple of the Service Folks in my place. I have very fond memories of The Rock from back in the day, when I was a crew member.

Love your show and STOP giving Angie a Hard time.

  6. Heard about this a couple of weeks ago from another XM listener. Was so impressed I called the track and bought a pack of four to the entire weekend of racing. It is a great feeling to know that some deserving servicemen/women will get to see a fantastic weekend of racing!

  7. Thank you Andy for bringing the Rock back to life. I live in CA and have a young son and a stay at home wife. Our financial situation prevents us from going, but your Send a Solider program allows us to do something even better. They give so much, and my family and I are thrilled to be able to give them a small token of thanks. Hopefully, the soliders who can go because of us will have the same lifelong memories that we have from going to the track. I just left Easter with the folks, and my Dad, who is a USMC Viet Nam Vet handed me $40 bucks as I was leaving, and said he wanted to send some boys too. Awesome Andy. We wish you the best with the resurrection - fitting so close to Easter - of your track, and we hope all your dedication pays off. Thank you Dave for getting the word out. We'll be there in spirit!
