Officials of the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience today announced
"Horsepower for Heroes," an initiative designed to give back to our
nation's service members for their commitment to preserving our liberty.
At each one of its 2014 events -- held at more than 50 locations across
the US and Canada -- RWRE will choose several active duty or retired service
members to experience the thrill of stock car racing first-hand at no charge.
At each event, participants will be given the option of either taking the wheel
of one of RWRE's high-performance race cars themselves or riding shotgun with
one of the program's skilled instructors.
In addition to American service members, members of Canada's armed forces
will also be eligible to participate at RWRE's Canadian events.
To apply for the program, eligible participants -- along with their
friends and family -- can visit www.racewithrusty.com and submit their
story. The program will begin immediately.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace noted, "I've been lucky enough to
meet a lot of service members at the track over the years. Their dedication and
love for our country is really incredible. I'm excited that RWRE is
giving back to these heroes and thanking them for their service to our country.
This is a great chance for us to share the American tradition of stock car
racing with some great American heroes."
Said Mark Ebert, RWRE President,
"This program has our crew really excited. We're all extremely honored to
meet some of our nation's heroes and their families at our events this year. We
encourage everyone to share their hero's story and we'll choose several folks
to join us at the racetrack during each one of our events. Hopefully, this
program will put smiles on quite a few faces."
