Hendrick Comments On Letarte's Departure

Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick commented on the impending departure of crew chief Steve Letarte from the No. 88 Chevrolet team at the end of the 2014 season, to accept a position as a television analyst with NBC Sports.

"You never want to see a talented and all-around quality person like Steve move on, but we understand this is an exciting opportunity for him and his family. He has all the tools to be a terrific broadcaster, and I know our fans will enjoy hearing his perspective.

"We're looking forward to a successful year in 2014 with Steve and Dale (Earnhardt Jr.) leading the No. 88 together. They have some of the best chemistry in the garage, and we know they'll build on last season and continue to be a championship-contending team.

"We don't expect to address the crew chief position until after the season. Everyone with the team is focused on 2014 and committed to having another great year."

Would a championship season create a different scenario?

  2. I don't think so, I you listened to Steve with the Bagman at a few races, even the Bagman replied about how Steve picked up details from the booth, I think this will be a great thing for Steve and for NASCAR!!!

  3. I think that will be great for Steve, and I wish him the best. Dale has grown so much with Steve as his crew chief and will continue to do well with a new crew chief, I believe this will work out as an advantage for both of them..

Dave, do you think that Rick would pull Chad off alone and ask him if he would be interested or would Rick want to leave well enough alone ? I ask this for one reason.... Long after Chad retires would he wish he had seen if he could help a different driver get a Championship. To me that would be the ultimate accomplishment.
