Feelgood Moffitt Shatters NHMS Track Record

It's a Cinderella story...
Little more than a week ago, it looked like Brett Moffitt would not be able to continue his championship run on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. His Hattori Racing Enterprises team had run out of sponsorship, and informed the series point leader that without further funding, he would not be able to compete in the final four races of the season.

Today, Moffitt claimed the pole position for the G-Oil 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, driving a car owned by former boss Michael Waltrip and fielded by HRE to a new NHMS track record. Moffitt didn’t just break Darrell Wallace, Jr.’s record, he obliterated it by more than two-tenths of a second, lapping the Magic Mile in 29.648 seconds.

HRE teammate Sergio Pena claimed the outside pole for tomorrow’s race, also lowering Wallace’s previous track record. G-Oil 100 from the outside pole after he recorded a lap of 29.700 seconds. Title contenders Kyle Larson and Corey Lajoie will start third and fourth, respectively, with Chase Elliott fifth.
