Truex Comments On RIR Controversy

Martin Truex, Jr. commented publically today for the first time since being penalized by NASCAR Monday, penalties that removed him from the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“I just want to take a min to thank my fans, NAPA AUTO PARTS, Toyota, NASCAR, my fellow competitors & MWR for their support,” said Truex in a series of Twitter postings. “I was very excited for my team when I learned that we clinched a Wild Card spot Sat night in Richmond. I drove the hardest race of my life that Night & was unaware of any other circumstances other than needing to finish as high as I could to have a chance. This has been a very difficult situation for everyone involved. I hope we can all move on.

“I’m looking forward to Chicago, seeing all my fans & getting back in My #56 NAPA Toyota. Thank you for all the messages. They are much appreciated.”

  3. Anyone within earshot of Michael, Vickers, Bowyer, Truex or anyone in a MWR uniform needs to yell the word cheater. These drivers that were just following orders need to be ashamed of themselves and other drivers need to see that shame. I am so disgusted with this race finish manipulation. How ironic that these Black Sox are on their way to Chicago!

  5. A class act. Perhaps he could give MWR some lessons. Hopefully NAPA will stick with him.

From a Jersey girl(well long past girl)to a Jersey boy, you are a CLASS act. All I needed to see after Richmond was your interview versus Clint's. Clint was not the usual Clint. It was just weird. Your interview was genuine and showed just how happy you were to be in the Chase. Then it was shattered.

Proud to have a 56 sticker on my truck along with an 88 and Jason Leffler.

Good luck in the next 10 and you'll be in the Chase in '14.

  8. I would like nothing more then for NAPA and Truex to find another Team. It is sad that his team would do this to get him in the chase and he misses it completely due to their actions.

I think Vickers may be regretting his move next year already and I am certain Mark Martin was no where near this controversy.

  9. So which rule (or action) did Truex break to be penalized? Wasn't he racing at "100%"? So guilty by association is now a 50 point penalty, or will NASCAR decide that on a case by case basis?
