With Speedweeks 2015 fast approaching, the Daytona
Beach-based Living Legends of Auto Racing has finalized its agenda of
activities surrounding the annual running of the Daytona 500.
The LLOAR was founded in
1993 to recognize, honor and promote the pioneers of beach and stock car
racing. Today, the organization has over 600 members around the world. The
all-volunteer organization hosts a variety of activities throughout the year
and publishes a quarterly newsletter, “The Cannonball” in addition to operating
an impressive Museum of Racing History in in South Daytona. Along with the City
of Daytona Beach Shores, LLOAR co-sponsors the Living Legends of Auto Racing
Memorial Brick Walk of Fame, featuring inscribed bricks honoring the pioneers
of auto racing. The group also provides a program on the history of automobile
racing in Volusia County to Central Florida organizations and schools.
On Monday, February 16, the organization’s annual Beachside
Parade will take place, with dozens of classic racing machines on display,
before parading north from Daytona Beach Shores down Route A1A, site of the
original Daytona Beach Road Course. Staging for the parade begins at 9 AM at
the Drive-In Church on A1A in Daytona Beach Shores, with cars on display until
1 PM, when the parade begins.
On Tuesday, February 17, the Shores Resort & Spa at
2637 S. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores hosts the LLOAR Charity Auction
and Autograph Session. Beginning at 5:00 PM, the evening includes an auction of
new and vintage race memorabilia, autographs from numerous NASCAR legends,
light snacks, door prizes and much more. A charity auction benefitting the
NASCAR Foundation & LLOAR Museum annually features classic NASCAR
memorabilia unavailable anywhere else, some of it from the personal collections
of the sport’s biggest stars. Tickets are $15 each, $20 at the door. For more

On Wednesday, February 18, the Living Legends’ 21th
Annual Awards Banquet takes center stage at the Shores Resort & Spa. Hosted
by Sirius XM NASCAR Radio host Chocolate Myers and his wife, Caron, this year’s
honorees include legendary crew chief Buddy Parrott, former drivers Kenny
Schrader and “Tiger” Tom Pistone, legendary “Miss Hurst Golden Shifter” Linda
Vaughn, Speedway Illustrated magazine
editor and former TV analyst Dr. Dick Berggren and former Georgia short track
