NASCAR has confirmed that there was nothing amiss with the
tires taken from the Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano teams during Sunday’s CampingWorld.com
500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Harvick and Logano finished first and eighth,
respectively in Sundays race, and run 1-2 in the Sprint Cup Series championship
standings. Their tires were taken by NASCAR as part of what executive vice president of racing development
Steve O’Donnell called “a regularly scheduled audit.
“We’ve done it in the past,” said O’Donnell on SiriusXM
NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive” this week. “It’s something we check with
Goodyear, making sure the tires supplied are where we want them to be. It’s
just another area of the car (to examine).
"We don’t expect to find anything. It’s
just something we like to do every once in a while.”
I was not aware there was any theoretical issue with those tires to begin with.
