ZZ Top To Perform Coke 600 Pre-Race Concert

ZZ Top, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, will bring their iconic tunes, trademark beards and dark sunglasses to Charlotte Motor Speedway for what promises to be an energetic pre-race concert to get fans revved up before the green flag falls on the Coca-Cola 600, Sunday, May 24.

The concert was announced by Coca-Cola Racing Family driver Danica Patrick and Marcus Smith, president and general manager at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Tuesday. Patrick, who said she grew up listening to ZZ Top, drove the “Little Ol’ Band From Texas” into a press event in a vintage Chevrolet Bel Air as the band’s classic “Sharp Dressed Man” played.

“ZZ Top has performed for millions of fans around the world for nearly as long as Charlotte Motor Speedway has been entertaining fans in the heart of NASCAR country,” said Smith. “Just like Charlotte Motor Speedway is part of the fabric of NASCAR’s storied history, ZZ Top is synonymous with classic rock and hot cars and we can’t wait for them to join us for the biggest Memorial Day Weekend celebration on the planet.”

Comprised of the same three members who formed the band in 1969 – Billy F. Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums) – ZZ Top will perform a 45-minute set in the infield of the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway just hours before NASCAR’s best are scheduled to take the track for the ultimate test of man and machine. The concert is free for all Coca-Cola 600 race ticket holders.

In a statement about their upcoming Coca Cola 600 appearance, ZZ Top noted, “Our music has long been synonymous with great NASCAR action and we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition with the May 24th appearance at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Fast cars, rockin' music and the greatest fans in the world is a winning combination as far as we’re concerned."

During their more than 45 years together, ZZ Top has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, recorded 15 studio albums and toured in front of millions of fans. Holding the distinction of the longest running major rock group with its original personnel intact, that “Little Ol’ Band from Texas” has churned out album after album of instantly-recognizable classic rock anthems like “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Tush,” “La Grange” and many more.

Great seats are still available for events throughout the 10 Days of Thunder, with weekend passes starting at just $99. To purchase tickets, camping and race-day upgrades, fans should call the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or shop online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.
