Engine Failure Ends Season On Sour Note

Brooks (30) races with Joseph Mursuli
Rockin’ Rodney Brooks and the Trinity Oaks Senior Living Community/KOMA Unwind Ford team ended their 2013 season on a disappointing note Saturday, when engine failure put their new Ford Mustang on the trailer prior to the start of the Pro All Stars Series “Mason Dixon Meltdown” at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina.

“I had run about 15 laps in the second practice when the engine suddenly `laid down’ on the backstretch,” said Brooks. “I shut it off immediately and coasted to pit road, where crew chief Jim Gallison diagnosed a broken valve.  I’m heartbroken for the team. These guys busted their butts rebuilding a demolished race car in just 12 days, and they deserved a better result than this.”

“It’s a disappointing way to end the season,” admitted Gallison, “and won’t know for sure what happened until we get the engine shipped back to the builder. Overall, though, we’re happy with the second half of the year. Since hooking up with Rodney Brooks in late August, we’ve had three Top-10s and an 11th-place finish, along with a crash and an engine failure. We proved that we’re capable of running up front and contending for wins, and that’s something to build on for 2014.”

“It’s been a heck of a year,” said Godfather Motorsports co-owner Dave Moody. “It had its share of ups and downs – like any season – but we were fortunate enough to forge new relationships with two amazing sponsors in Trinity Oaks Senior Living and KOMA Unwind. We could not have asked for better, more supportive teammates, and we cannot thank them enough for their involvement. I wish the 2014 season started today!”

While the Trinity Oaks/KOMA Unwind Ford team has completed its 2013 racing schedule, there are still three off-track appearances remaining. The team will take part in Holiday Parades in both Salisbury and Mooresville, NC, on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, before appearing on behalf of ARBodies at the annual Charlotte Auto Racing Show (CARS) on December 5-7 at the Charlotte (NC) Convention Center.

That had to have been a bummer way to end the season. But kudos to you Dave for giving back to the racing community at the grass roots level.
