Racer Arrested In Florida Sex Sting

Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Mario Gosselin was arrested Saturday as part of an online prostitution sting in Polk County, Florida.

Gosselin, a native of St. Marie, Que., who now makes his home in Lake Wales, Fla., was arrested by Polk County Sheriff's deputies and charged with soliciting prostitution, after responding to an online advertisement for sex. Married with two young daughters, the 40-year old Gosselin reportedly met with an undercover detective posing as a prostitute before being arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail. He is currently free on $250 bail.

Gosselin is a two-time champion and 26-time winner on the former USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, and made 25 starts on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2010, finishing 16th in championship points with a best finish of ninth at Martinsville Speedway. “Super Mario” has 51 career starts in NASCAR’s three national series, including three on the headline Sprint Cup Series. He is also a three-time winner in ARCA competition, and won the first race of his rookie season from the pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1999.

He owns Florida-based DGM Racing, and listed his occupation as “self-employed mechanic.”

Amen to that. Moody, thought you would be above bringing light so something so unnecessary. I know, I know, it's your job to say it, our job to react to it. Damn, you won again!

  2. Why cant we just concern ourselves with on track activity ? Everyone should be allowed to live their lives, whatever that entails. This is supposed to be racing related, if I wanted TMZ I would have gone there.

    1. He is absolutely allowed to live his life. All we do is report the news. And based on your screen name, I'm not taken your criticism totally to heart, "Boner."

    2. I'm a fisherman Dave, and a long time listener. And 95% of the time I'm in agreement with you and respect your opinion and respect how you deal with the offbeat callers. But here you put yourself in the category of sensationalizing NASCAR reporters the likes of Jeff Gluck. Frankly I'm a bit surprised at you and chalk it up to a slow news day.

    3. Can you point out the sensationalism in my story? All I see is s simple statement of the facts.

    4. From Wikipedia:" Sensationalism is a type of editorial bias in mass media in which events and topics in news stories and pieces are over-hyped to increase viewership or readership numbers.[1] Sensationalism may include reporting about generally insignificant matters and events that don't influence overall society and biased presentations of newsworthy topics in a sensationalist, trivial or tabloid manner."

You're a smart guy Dave, and you get 20 hours a week practicing debating skills, and I don't want to beat this to death.Put the word sex in any headline and you will draw in eyeballs. Its my opinion that you are way above this type of journalism ,just my opinion, you are entitled to yours.and its your Blog. Have at it.

    5. One more thing Dave, if that was Reuty or Skinner, would you break that story, or just report on it after Gluck did ?

You posted a definition from "Wikipedia" that actually proves you wrong! No where in the story were the events over hyped to influence society! People need to get a life and let Moody do his job!

    7. For the record, I never said I "sat" on this story waiting for someone else to report it. I said I waited until I could confirm that the story was true (by viewing the official documents) before reporting it. And yes, I would have done the same thing, regardless of which driver was involved. It's my job.

Dave I'm not suggesting that, and you have consistently done that in the past. (at least you say so and I believe you ) Maybe you would for Reuty but no way in hell would you disrespect the young and lovely Ms. Skinner ,job or not .

Moody had to poke fun at the mans screen name. That was very mature.

And, I assume he made 25 starts in the Truck Series in 2011, not 2012? As we have not had 25 races in 2012 yet? Just sayin'... :)

Folks in Government get paid to screw people everyday and they are not arrested. Florida's State Capitol, Wall Street, Capitol Hill... that is where cops should be setting up the "Sting" to nail the real criminals. They do much worse and more perverse things to people than Mario. Nice waste of taxpayers money.

Made 25 starts in 2012? Impressive seeing as this is only March. Let's legalize, tax, and regulate prostitution like everybody wants to do with pot, then we won't have to read about arrests that have nothing to do with this persons on track performance.

I guess I find it somewhat laughable that
going to meet a prostitute (married or not) really is much of a story. He got tagged in a sting operation. Id say poor judgement.. bit nowhere near as bad as drunk driving, drug usage or just going off the deep end (drugs, theft, etc: Jeremy Mayfield).

Besides he is Canadian.. and under Canadian law Prostitution is legal.

    Just my .02

He should have stayed in Canada. That stuff is legal and the health care is free to take care of the STDs. He must be the youngest Canadian in Polk County

No other news story referenced as a source for all this information? So we are to assume Moody that YOU yourself did all the reporting yourself for this particular story? Or did most (nearly all) of the information in your story come lifted from another legitimate news source that you just decided not to mention as the place where you took it from? Pretty bad. Isn't that kind of thing, stealing stories from others without giving credit, considered unethical by real journalists?

    1. Every ounce of information referenced in this story is available at the Polk County (FL) Sheriff's Department website, and from public court documents. Researching stories like this is what I have done for a living since the early `80s. I first heard of this story Tuesday, but was unable to confirm it through official channels until today.

Sorry, but I won't be taking ethics lessons from an online poster who doesnt even dare to use his name.

Seriously folks. If it wasn't reported people would be whining that" the shills" of NASCAR overlook when there is a bad apple. Kinda like another problem that keeps resurfacing. Would it be easy to just ignore it? Sure it would. Fact is he is associated with our sport and Dave has an obligation to make a report on it.

Dave it isn't the hockey pucks you ignore that give you headaches it's the ones you engage ;-) JMO

Moody, Moody, Moody.... It was you that taught us, "you'll never make everyone happy!" I've listened to you banter with some real real nut cases over the last 10+ years, so don't let these few get under your skin. I'm a race announcer in Florida, going on 20 years now. I've interviewed Mario many times, great guy, that made a terrible mistake. His burden to bare, I'm sure he has realized what a stupid thing he's done. Bill Green, FromBehindTheMIC
