Reutimann To Drive Second Toyota As Teammate To Landon Cassill

David Reutimann
David Reutimann will race in this month’s Daytona 500, after all.

Sirius XM Speedway with Dave Moody has learned that Reutimann will steer a second Toyota Camry for the new ownership group that recently purchased assets of the former Red Bull Racing. Youngster Landon Cassill is slated to drive the team’s No. 83 Toyota at Daytona, and said last week that the driver of the second entry – believed to be No. 93 – would be announced in the coming days. Both Travis Kvapil and Brian Vickers were rumored to be candidates for the ride, but Reutimann confirmed to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's SiriusXM Speedway with Dave Moody that he has been selected to fill the seat.

“They’re up there in Statesville thrashing away, getting things ready to go to the Daytona 500,” said Reutimann.“Things came together pretty quickly on this deal. We talked a bit a few days ago, but it took a little longer (to finalize) than I would have liked, simply because they’re trying to do so much at once. We had talks back and forth, exchanged a few text messages, and it has finally gotten to the point where we can make a bit of an announcement.

“They’re a great bunch of people,” he said. “They’re very serious about what they’re doing. They’ve invested a lot of time and money to get this far, and I’m pretty impressed with what they’ve done.

Reutimann said he believes his Toyota will carry the No. 93, but is not entirely certain. “Honestly,” he laughed, “I don’t care about the number of the color, as long as my name is on the roof and I’m in the seat when we roll out to practice!”

The Zephyrhills, Fla., native was released by Michael Waltrip Racing at the end of last season, before signing last month to drive a partial Sprint Cup Series schedule in Tommy Baldwin Racing’s #10 Chevrolet, filling the 26 races not run by Danica Patrick. With Patrick slated to make her first career Sprint Cup start in the February 26 Daytona 500, Reutimann was available to drive in the “Great American Race.” He will also drive the No. 92 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chevrolet for RBR Enterprises at Daytona.

Kvapil will be in the car after Daytona. The team is working their BUTTS off and I think they are going to surprise a lot of people. They have done a lot of work in a very short time. I hope they do well!!!!!

Still not entirely clear - is he with them 500 only, the ten races left over from Tbr, or all 36?

Too bad a lesser qualified driver like Reutimann got the job over Brian Vickers.

Lesser Qualified???? How do you figure? Their vital stats on paper are pretty close.

Brian was in the best equipment money could buy in 03-06 and with only one win (on a restrictor plate track). He also won a fuel mileage race in Michigan with Red Bull.

David won the Coke 600 due to rain out. I understand. But, he won Chicago big time. No fuel mileage no restrictor plate racing. That showed what he can do when the equipment is all in sync.

So in my humble opinion I believe David is a better choice.
