Earnhardt Set For MMA Debut

Tuesday night, Jeffrey Earnhardt will trade in his nomex driving gloves for a pair of MMA fight gloves. Earnhardt, the grandson of seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt and nephew of current second-place point driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., makes his MMA debut against mixed martial artist Chris Faison in the highlighted fight on the evening’s card.

“I’ve been using MMA as my training regimen, so I’m excited to show the fans that race car drivers are athletes just like in other professional sports. I’ve been preparing for this fight since December and think I’m ready. My next race is in a few weeks so I felt comfortable that now was a good time.” says Earnhardt who will make his next scheduled NASCAR start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway July 6.

Asked if he will be intimidated climbing into a cage with a guy who fights for a living, Earnhardt answered, “I’m a race car driver first and foremost and have a lot of respect for the guys who do MMA for a living. I take this opportunity very seriously, but whether it’s a roll cage or a fight cage, I don’t back down from anyone.”

The fight is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 pm (EST) and can be viewed live online via $15 Pay Per View at www.jeimma.com.

  2. You might want to do a little research before you go on blast, Bill Green. The guy he's fixing is 0-3 in his amateur career (all losses by submission) and is 40 years old. I think he stands a good chance of winning this.

Grandpa would be proud! And I bet Grandpa would be right there cheering him on if he was still here.
