Ford joins BK Racing |
Ford has been a top crew chief at NASCAR's hiighest level for more than a decade. He sat atop the pit box for Bill Elliott’s self-owned team in 2000, and followed Elliott to Evernham Motorsports, winning four races as crew chief for the Dawsonville, Ga., veteran between 2001 and 2003. Since then, he has overseen teams at Robert Yates Racing (Dale Jarrett), Joe Gibbs Racing (Denny Hamlin) and Richard Petty Motorsports (Marcos Ambrose, Aric Almirola). With Hamlin, he earned Top-10 Sprint Cup point finishes in five of their six seasons, including a runner-up showing to Jimmie Johnson in 2010.
He was released by RPM in October of this year.
BK Racing fielded Toyota Camrys for drivers Travis Kvapil and Landon Cassill last season, finishing 27th and 31st, respectively in the championship standings. The pair managed just one Top-10 finish in 71 combined starts; an eighth by Kvapil in the fall race at Tallladega Superspeedway.
The team has yet to announce a driver or crew chief lineup for the 2013 season. Sources say negotiations have taken place with Kvapil, Cassill, AJ Allmendinger and David Reutimann, with an eye toward announcing a finalized lineup within the next 30 days.
Allmendinger would be a huge help to that organization IMHO.
ReplyDeleteKvapil better be back in 2013. Finished 27th in driver's points and did not even run Daytona. He had a pretty good year for a 1st yr team thrown together at the last minute. He kept cars together, and i think could really do good things for BK Racing over the next few yrs. I guess it will all depend on how may cars they field. I am hoping three, would help with manufacturer help I would think.
