MTJF filled a trailer for hurrican relief |
After seeing photos of the
devastation in his home state of NJ, Truex quickly sprang into action, setting
up a Sandy Relief Fund through his Foundation. The two-time Nationwide Series
Champion eagerly announced that he would not only match the amount
of monetary donations brought in through the fund, but his Michael Waltrip
Racing team would, as well.
After hearing about the clean-up
efforts around his hometown of Mayetta, NJ, Truex and his staff also began
collecting much-needed supplies at his shop in Mooresville, NC. The community
quickly got involved, filling a trailer with cleaning supplies
including flashlights, batteries, first aid-supplies, non-perishable foods,
clothing, bedding, baby products, pet supplies and more. The truck departed for
Stafford Township this past week, and dropped off the supplies at the Stafford
Township Storm Relief Center in Manahawkin, near Truex’s hometown. The
foundation is planning to deliver a second shipment of products sometime before
the Christmas holidays.
The Relief Center
both receives and distributes donations to families currently trying to rebuild
in the NJ area. The center offers nonperishable food items, clothing and
household items to anyone in need with no application process for receiving
donations.
To date, the foundation has raised
more than $150,000 in cash, 100% of which will go to the MTJF Hurricane Sandy
Relief Assistance Fund for medicine or medical services, rental or mortgage
needs, utility payments, car repairs, specific personal needs (food, hygiene
products and cleaning supplies) and other emergency requests.
