Gaughan will race for the title in 2013 |
Gaughan ran a combined
schedule of 10 Nationwide and eight Truck Series races for RCR this year, claiming
seven
Top-5 and nine Top-10 finishes in those 18 starts. His best showing was a second-place finish behind
eventual series champion James Buescher in the Camping World Truck Series “American
Ethanol 255” at Chicagoland Speedway in July.
“I am excited to get
back to the Truck Series,” said Gaughan, who will carry a number of different
sponsors on his No. 62 Chevrolet in 2013, including his family owned South Point Hotel and Casino. “The
2012 season was about proving to everyone – including myself – that I could
still run up-front and contend for wins. Now, I want another shot at the
championship, and Richard Childress Racing fields great trucks that are capable
of doing just that.”
Shane Wilson will serve as crew chief for the effort, reprising an effort that saw them win multiple Truck Series races from 2000-2003, and competing for Rookie of the Year honors in the Sprint Cup Series in 2004.
“I’m looking forward to being reunited with Brendan in the (NASCAR Camping World) Truck Series,” said Wilson. “We have some unfinished business we need to take care of next season. With our resources from Richard Childress Racing, Brendan being a veteran Truck Series driver and our former history, I think it’s safe to say that we will be a very competitive team in 2013.”
“Brendan and Shane know what it takes to win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, so we’re hoping the communication they developed a few years ago will be that little extra needed to get back in the winner’s circle next season,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “Brendan had four top-five finishes in the eight Truck Series races he ran for RCR last year, and three more in the Nationwide Series, so he’s already knocking on the door to get that next win."
Gaughan will be a guaranteed starter in the opening events of the season, thanks to owner points accrued in 2012 by Joey Coulter, who departed the team recently for a new position at Kyle Busch Motorsports. Gaughan will also run a pair of NASCAR Nationwide Series events in 2013, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and on the road course at Road America.

Gaughan came within a
handful of laps of claiming the Truck Series title in 2003, winning a
season-high six races before a controversial late-race crash in the season
finale at Homestead Miami Speedway relegated him to a 29th-place
finish and allowed Travis Kvapil to claim the championship.
Congratulation Uncle Brennie. Great news. Can't wait to see you in every truck race. Already reserved my ticket for Dover's truck race. So glad I know you'll be in it.
