MWR Issues Statement on Phoenix Fight

Michael Waltrip Racing issued a statement today on the fight involving members of Clint Bowyer’s No. 15 5-Hour Energy Toyota team Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

The statement read,The goal of Michael Waltrip Racing is to be a championship-level organization both on and off the track. The on-track incident which occurred during Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway was extremely disappointing and brought raw emotions of a long and hard championship battle to the surface. Though we generally cannot control certain actions on the track, the unfortunate reactions off the track Sunday did not live up to the professional standards in which Michael Waltrip Racing expects all of its representatives to live by. We commit to our sponsors, our manufacturer, our fans and NASCAR that we will do so in the future.”

Including, I hope, not using the word "retards". As a parent of a special needs child who has faced bullying and name calling, I found that extremely offensive. I like Clint but he is a grown up and he should know better. Bonnie Pepper

Clint Bowyer apologized for using that word within an hour of the interview. His apology seemed sincere.

Maybe if Clint didn't say on a weekly basis that he is going to wreck someone I would care. He had it coming and if anyone looked rediculous it was him running like a maniac. I lost more respect for him then anyone else.

  3. Cant blame Clint even 1%. JG is a champion who would have reacted the same way if someone with no shot took any hope of his shot away. Rubbin is racin' but this takes it to a whole new level...wrong, just wrong.

So Jeff had his way with the deserving Clint. No punishment for Gordon based on no prior waring or history - remember the Edwards Kes thing at Atlanta? Both crew chiefs are doomed though - rules state they must keep their boys in line and boys have at it doesnt overflow into the pits.

Nascar needs to fine Brad for his mouth in the media room - they got JR. Hamlin, Newman and others in the past for things they have said. Brad overstepped his bounds with his 4 letter tiraid.

I completely disagree with Brads comments during the post race media interviews. most are forgetting the difference between Brad not getting fined and the aformentionet Hamlin, Newman, & JR fines is that those were broadcast to live radio/ tv. the media center interviews are not aired live. before we the people hear them, they are already bleeped out. the vulgarity police have already done their job for those of us who cannot handle such language. this was a great day for Nascar. It's what everyone was waiting for. Gentlemen have at er.... great front page news and great momentum moving into the Homestead race for more fans to watch. This is what has been missing. I think it's fantastic and can hardly wait until next week.
