SHR co-owner Tony Stewart confirmed today in Loudon, NH, that Kevin Harvick’s move to the team will leave Newman on the outside, looking in. Harvick will join Stewart and Danica Patrick in a three-car lineup at Stewart Haas next season. There have been rumors of the team expanding to a fourth team to retain Newman, but Stewart said today that his operation will remain at three cars.
“We’re not ready to expand to a fourth team,” he said. “Unfortunately, this will be the last year we have Ryan.” Stewart called it “a bittersweet day,” adding, “I’m bringing in one of my friends to the organization, but I’m also losing a friend at the end of the year.”
Stewart said that he and Newman are friends off the track, adding, “our friendship will not change. This was a business decision that was Gene (Haas) as well as mine’s. It was a hard decision. We had to put the personal side apart and work through the business part. I’ll do everything I can to help Ryan in any way I can. I believe in him 100 percent (and) I truly wish we were able to facilitate four teams at this time.
“We’re just
not able to do that.’’
Newman signed a one-year contract extension with SHR prior to the start of the 2013 campaign and currently ranks 16th in the championship point standings.

sad, Newman has way outperformed the boss most of the year. He should be a great catch for some other team.
ReplyDeleteThey kept Danica Dollars over talent
DeleteMy husband n I just said that.we were looking forward to a unified team n our house.I'm a Newman fan, he's a harvick fan
ReplyDeleteRyan will find another ride, he's one of my favorites and I am sure he'll prosper. SHR did not make a good trade in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI hope Tony and his little band of buds never win another race in Nascar. Newmans better than all three put together. Just saying....
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt mind seing Newman end up in a 4th gibbs car next year
ReplyDeleteRichard Childress could once again prove himself as a great business man by scooping up Ryan Newman with a multi-year contract.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he could end up at RCR.
ReplyDeleteReplacing Burton maybe?
Deletesponsorship talks, or it would've been danica out the door
ReplyDeleteThat is Tony's loss.
ReplyDeleteracing is no longer about winning---------If you fire Newman and keep Danica it is about money and only money----------We all know Danica will never win a NASCAR race....
ReplyDeleteI am definitely sad to see Newman go and I am very happy he was able to get a Brickyard win with Stewart-Hass.
ReplyDeleteBut with that being said...enough with the they kept Danica because of the money BS!
OF COURSE THEY DID!!!!
Think about the facts, SHR would have been a 2 car team if it wasn't for the sponsership Danica brings...if you don't have money to pay for the cars you can't put them on the track.
SHR brining Danica in was brilliant...if she wins they are the team that took a gamble on the first woman to win a NASCAR race...if she never wins (which I think will be the case) the car paid for itself so the only cost was spreading some talent thin across 3 rather than the 2 teams.
If you want Danica to go away STOP TALKING ABOUT HER!!! Otherwise shut up and deal with the fact NASCAR isn't moonshiners driving around the back hills and not just every driver can get on the track because they have a passion for it. NASCAR is a major sport and like EVERY other major league sport contracts, sponsorships, and revenue impact the product put in front of us.
