Larson Set For Charlotte Sprint Cup Debut

In August, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced that Kyle Larson would take over the reins of the No. 42 Target Chevy SS beginning in 2014. Today, EGR confirmed Larson will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in the Phoenix Racing No. 51 Chevrolet SS at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 12. Larson’s entry will be sponsored by Target.

He will also run the Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Oct. 27, driving the No. 51 Target Chevrolet.
Larson, who is currently running full-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, will also compete in the NNS race at Charlotte in the No. 32 Target Camaro for Turner Scott Motorsports. He will continue to run full-time in the Nationwide Series while competing for Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honors next season.
“We are happy to have an opportunity to get Kyle in a couple of Cup races this year,” said EGR owner Chip Ganassi. “Those races, along with an aggressive testing schedule, will be invaluable in his preparation for the 2014 season.”
“I am very excited to get behind the wheel of a Cup car in Charlotte this month – especially getting to race with the Target bullseye on the car,” said Larson. “I have a lot of work to do to prepare for the 2014 season and I cannot wait to get started.”

Larson has started 28 Nationwide races this season and finished second last week on the Monster Mile at Dover. He currently ranks ninth in the point standings with eight Top-5 and 15 Top-10 finishes.  He has also had two 2013 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, with a win at Rockingham Speedway and second-place finish at Eldora Speedway.

  1. So, is Montoya running the 42 at Charlotte and who's the sponsor?

    1. It says Larson is running the #51 for Phoenix Racing. Montoya will be in the #42, as always.

  3. I would really like to see this done as a Black #51 Target Car with the 42 remaining Red. It would also be good as a Pink #51 Target Car with the Breast Cancer Awareness Program.

Maybe next year the #1 and #42 can do a Red and Black Target theme.

Was that a Pepsi logo on the arm of Kyle Larson's uniform a couple weeks back?
