The
announcement is part of a marketing agreement between the two which makes the
2013 vehicle “The Official Pace Car of Auto Club Speedway.”
“Toyota
is excited to extend its long-standing relationship with Auto Club Speedway
when the Camry serves as the official pace car during the NASCAR race weekend,”
said Les Unger, national motorsports marketing manager for Toyota Motor Sales,
USA, Inc. “Being based in southern California, Toyota has previously enjoyed a
partnership with the track from a promotion and sponsorship perspective at
various times throughout the years. This opportunity is a perfect fit for
Toyota to showcase the 2013 Camry given the company’s historical popularity in
the southern California market.”
The
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. headquarters are located in Torrance, Calif., and
the Camry is built at Toyota manufacturing facilities in Georgetown, Kentucky
and Lafayette, Indiana. The 2013 NASCAR season will feature the introduction of
the new 2013 Camry race car with an updated and more unique identity.
The
Toyota made its NASCAR debut in 2004 when it entered the NASCAR Camping World
Truck Series with the Tundra. In 2007, Toyota began competing in the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR NNS Series with the Camry.
