Pastrana Cops Talladega Nationwide Pole

Travis Pastrana’s first visit to Talladega Superspeedway is off to a flying start.

The former X-Games star won the pole for Saturday afternoon’s Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, turning the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 54.255 seconds, at a speed of 176.500 mph. It was Pastrana’s first pole in his 17th career Nationwide start, besting the fourth-place effort he recorded in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway in February.

Amazingly, Patrana’s pole run was the first ever for Roush Fenway Racing in Talladega Nationwide Series competition and their 94th overall.

Austin Dillon qualified second, followed by Trevor Bayne, Danica Patrick and Justin Allgaier. Sam Hornish, Jr., Elliott Sadler, Brian Scott, Kurt Busch and John Wes Townley completed the Top-10, but Townley’s time was subsequently disallowed when his car was found to be too low in post-qualifying inspection. Tim Andrews will now make the race.
