Qualifying Rained Out, Field To Be Set By 2012 Points

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series time trials were canceled by persistent rain today for the first time in 16 races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The starting lineup for Sunday’s event will now be set by 2012 owner points, with series champion Brad Keselowski on the pole. With 44 cars on the entry list, only one -- Mike Bliss -- will fail to make the race.

Why convolute owners points with Chase rules. I can understand (don't agree with) manipulating driver points to add hype at the end of the year but why owner points? You would think owners would be in favor of straight up racing between them. This is one reason I prefer other series over Cup.
