JGR Vows To Appeal Kenseth Penalty

STATEMENT FROM JOE GIBBS RACING ON THE SANCTIONS IMPOSED AGAINST JGR AND DRIVER MATT KENSETH TODAY:

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) is aware of the penalty issued by NASCAR today regarding the engine in our No. 20 car used in last week’s Sprint Cup Series race in Kansas.
It is our understanding that one of the eight connecting rods on the engine was ruled too light.
We are working with our partners at TRD on this issue.
In the meantime we will plan to appeal the penalty.

Dave, what do you think the liklihood is that this appeal will get any of the penalties lowered? I know that they can't expect to get the whole thing overturned - and that's a huge amount of points to lose. But are there any real chances that those get reduced?

The penalties are too harsh. NARCAR insults not only the fans but the professionals in the shops along with the sponsors by doing what they did and ultimately stigmatizing JGR, a class act that NASCAR could take lessons from. A few points and minor fines would be appropriate but suspending so many people and going after the 20 team like they did smacks of something underlying we may not be privy to.

NASCAR stubbed their toe and made themselves look foolish. They can't undo the damage. .

with this harsh a penalty for such an infraction makes one think may be an ongoing problem with some of the teams.in time I am sure the rationale for this penalty will come to the surface.
