Burton claimed his first
career Truck Series pole in only the seventh start of his rookie campaign and
his second career visit to Martinsville. He began his Truck Series career in
this race a year ago, starting seventh and finishing 13th.He set a new
Martinsville track record with a lap in 19.589 seconds, at 96.666 mph. He was
the final driver to take time Friday, and bumped Wallace from the provisional
pole.
Wallace will start second, his
best NCWTS qualifying effort in just his second career start. He qualified 14th
at Daytona, en route to a 12th-place finish. He has one prior stock
car start at the .53-mile track; on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, where
he started fifth, led 15 laps and finished third. He has also competed in
Legends car races at Martinsville.
Timothy Peters, point leader
Johnny Sauter and German Quiroga completed the Top-5 qualifiers, followed by Ty
Dillon, Matt Crafton, Chase Elliott, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Brennan Newberry will
start sixth through 10th.
